Frequently Asked Questions
Some of the common general questions that we get asked
Do I need an ESA permit for general residential electrical work or renovations?
Yes. In Toronto and the GTA, almost all electrical work—including finishing a basement, adding potlights, or modifying circuits requires an Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) permit.
Working with a licensed electrical contractor ensures all notifications are filed correctly and a certificate of inspection is issued, protecting you and your property.
What are the signs that my home needs an electrical panel upgrade?
If your home still uses a 100-amp panel or less, and you are experiencing flickering lights, frequently tripping breakers, or are planning to add high-power assets like a hot tub, EV charger, or a sauna, you likely need a 200-amp panel upgrade. Modern homes demand more simultaneous power than older panels can safely distribute.
If you’re looking to upgrade or experiencing any of the above. Contact Us to discuss some of your options.
Can my existing electrical panel handle a Level 2 EV charger installation?
It depends on your home’s current electrical capacity and overall load calculations. A Level 2 EV charger typically requires a dedicated 40-amp to 60-amp double-pole breaker. Our team performs a comprehensive load evaluation of your property to ensure you can charge safely without overloading your main panel or causing system instability. Looking to install a charger, shoot us a message!
Why do my breakers trip frequently, and is it an emergency?
A breaker trips because the circuit is overloaded, shorted, or experiencing a ground fault. While a single trip from a vacuum cleaner might just mean too many appliances are running at once, a breaker that repeatedly trips or hums is a serious safety hazard indicating unstable wiring or hardware failure. It should be evaluated by a professional immediately.

Are backup generators difficult to integrate into an existing electrical system?
Not when handled by a specialist. Integrating a whole-home standby generator involves installing an Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) next to your main electrical panel. The ATS safely isolates your home from the utility grid during an outage and instantly routes generator power to your critical circuits within seconds, keeping your property fully online during severe weather.
My sauna is taking too long to heat up, what could be the problem?
If your sauna is taking too long to heat up, it usually boils down to one of the following issues:
Burned-Out Element: Most heaters have 3 elements. If one is dead, the heater is only working at 66% capacity.
Loose Wiring: Heat cycles can loosen connections at the terminal block, causing a voltage drop.
Tightly Packed Stones: Stones should be placed loosely. If they are packed too tightly, heat stays trapped in the heater rather than circulating into the room.
Lack of Insulation: Uninsulated “single-wall” saunas (like some barrel kits) struggle in Ontario winters.
The “Glass Factor”: Every square foot of glass or stone wall acts like a “cold sink.” You need a more powerful heater to compensate for these surfaces.
Underpowered Heater: If the heater’s kilowatt (kW) rating is too low for the cubic footage of the room, it will never reach the target temperature. For a standard Toronto home sauna, you generally need 1kW for every 45–50 cubic feet.

We needed an old heater replaced and some under-bench lighting installed. Andrew gave us a clear quote, showed up on time, and finished the job faster than expected. It’s rare to find a contractor who is this specialized and actually answers the phone. They are now my go-to for anything electrical in our home.

We had family coming in from out of town. Our sauna heater gave out on the day of their arrival. Andrew and his team were nice enough to shuffle their schedule to accommodate us last minute. Would highly recommend.

We had a complex sauna build at our cottage. Sauna Electricians came all the way up and managed to install without causing any damage to the external or internal walls. Super happy with the end result. It’s rare to find an electrician who specializes in this niche.
